This is a further update regarding a previous post about Family Visas and the announcement from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection that as of June 2 2014, certain family visa subclasses would be ceasing.

As of 25 September 2014, the following visa subclasses have again become available:

• the Non-Contributory Parent Visa (subclass 103 and 804)
• the Aged Dependent Relative (subclass 114 and 838)
• the Remaining Relative (subclass 115 and 835)
• the Carer Visa (subclass 116 and 835)

Applicants should be advised, however, that the Department is reporting significant queues, and the processing times expected for each visa subclass is listed below:

• the Non-Contributory Parent Visa: approximately 30 years
• the Aged Dependent Relative: approximately 56 years
• the Remaining Relative: approximately 56 years
• the Carer Visa: approximately 4.5 years

What should you do if your Family Visa application is received by the department after 2nd June 2014?

Furthermore, applicants should also be advised that any application received by the department after 2 June 2014, and before 25 September 2014, is still invalid. These applications must be re-lodged with the Department to be considered.
