As part of the Government’s Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook the Visa Application Charges (VACs) for some visas that are in high demand have been increased. The Government is trying to make it a fairer ‘user-pays’ system. The higher charges will take effect on 1 January 2013. Some visa applicants may find themselves almost an extra $1000 out of pocket if DIAC receives their application after 31 December 2013.

The following visa charges will be increased:

• Onshore Partner (Subclass 820/801) visas: The application charge will increase from $3060 to ‘around’ $4000.
• Offshore Partner (Subclass 309/100) visas: The application charge will increase from $2060 to ‘around’ $2700.
• Skilled Graduate (Subclass 485) visas: The application charge will increase from $315 to ‘around’ $1260.
• Temporary Business (Long Stay) (Subclass 457) visas: The application charge will increase from $350 to ‘around’ $455.
• Working Holiday (Subclass 417) visas: The application charge will increase from $280 to ‘around’ $360.

If you are planning on applying for one of these visas you will need to ensure DIAC receives your visa application before 1 January 2013 to avoid paying the higher visa application charges. For more information on these increases see the Media Release.
